Gerhard Niedermayr

Born 1941 in Vienna; studies at the University of Vienna (petrography, mineralogy and geology); PhD in 1965. Since 1964 employed at the museum, curator of the mineral collection and since 1980 head of the Staatliches Edelsteininstitut (State Institute of Gemmology).

Research areas: Sedimentology of Permo - Skythian rocks of the Alps, topographic mineralogy of Austria (in particular alpine cleft mineralisations), mineralisations in the Himalayas (alpine clefts and pegmatites), inclusions in gemstones.
