Dioscoride, born in Anazarba (Asia Minor) around 60 BC, is held, together with Teophraste, as one of the fathers of botanics. The main criterion of the subdivision of the plants adopted by Dioscoride was based on the therapeutical properties of the diverse vegetal essences.
